Brent girls lift cup at Wembley

Following grant funding from WNST two years ago Brent Schools FA, founded in 1966, set up the first ever Brent girls team.

This season the girls have  won two cups, the Surrey League and the Woking Festival cup, and just missed out on the London League, having led with just 2 games remaining.

On Saturday the team was presented with the cup by Lionesses manager Mark Sampson on the Wembley pitch at half time of The Woman’s FA Cup final between Arsenal and Chelsea.  It was a dream come true for the team.

In the future, some of the players hope to play for FA WSL teams and even in a Woman’s FA cup final. They hope to follow in the footsteps of local girl Rachel Yankey who has had a distinguished career for Arsenal and England.

The Brent team were supported at Wembley by a group 300 Brent players, teachers, family and friends.

Brent chair Chris Ampofo “Huge thanks to The FA and Wembley stadium National trust for today and also for the support we have received over the years. Today is an experience the players and their families will treasure forever. The Cup final has been amazing.

I would encourage every school in the country to get a group together and attend next years Woman’s Cup final. It is a family friendly occasion and a brilliant day out”
