Brent Schools FA presentation evening

Around 200 players, family and friends gathered at the Capital City Academy on 12th July for the annual Brent Schools FA presentation evening.  As ever, this was a great opportunity to recognise the progress made by all the borough’s representative age-group teams.  The occasion is also an important one to thank the coaches, organisers and parents who contribute so much time and effort into making it possible for the teams to play.

WNST Chief Executive, Stewart Goshawk, Brent cabinet member Cllr Krupesh Hirani and Senior Director of Sport at Capital City, Fiona Dempsey were all on hand to help make the medal presentations to the members of each team and to give out the various trophies within each team for individual achievement.

Pride of place on the evening went to U11 and U12 girls teams who have achieved way beyond expectation, winning three trophies between them, all of which were proudly on display.  The U12s in particular are worthy of special mention, having found there was no borough competition for their age group and having to form a team and join a league structure with some experienced and challenging opposition.  Nevertheless, the girls acquitted themselves admirably and look forward to more success in seasons to come.

The chance to play representative sport is a great opportunity for Brent students and an excellent way of bringing young people together from different schools and who are living in different parts of the borough – all united by their love of football.  Over the years, Brent Schools FA has produced some notable talent, including past and present England internationals Stuart Pearce and Raheem Sterling.  Who knows if there was another in the room that evening?
