Liberté, égalité, fraternité

Yesterday evening, WNST Chief Executive, Stewart Goshawk, was at Wembley Stadium along with about 50 representatives of organisations funded by the Trust for the England friendly against France.

In the wake of the tragic events in Paris last Friday, the occasion was amongst the most poignant ever to be held at the iconic stadium.  Supporters from both nations stood united, with the English crowd proudly joining in the singing of La Marseillaise before kick-off.  The stadium and the famous arch were lit in the colours of the French tricoleur.

For many, the result of the game was irrelevant compared with the show of solidarity for everyone affected by the terrorist attacks, including those outside the Stade de France.

The staff and trustees of the Wembley National Stadium Trust join the rest of the sporting world in sending our deepest condolences to the bereaved families and our thoughts remain with those who were injured.
