- WHO CAN APPLY?
WNST can fund:
• Schools, colleges and other educational establishments in the London Borough of Brent
• Registered charities
• Community amateur sports clubs
• Community interest companies
• Community groups, Social enterprises, tenants’ & residents’ groups
• Community sports clubs and groups, constituted as not-for-profit
Your organisation must either be based in LB Brent or currently providing services for people living in LB Brent.
- OUR CLUB/ORGANISATION IS NOT A REGISTERED GROUP; CAN WE STILL APPLY?
Yes, however if you are not a registered charity/CASC/CIC nor registered with your sport’s governing body, you will need to provide details of someone who can give a reference for your work. They must be independent of your organisation (ie. not a member, service user or relative) and be able to talk to us about what you do. This might be a local councillor, local authority officer, sports official or someone from a recognised body in the borough. The person you name must have given their permission.
- DO YOU FUND INDIVIDUALS?
No, we can only fund properly constituted organisations. We cannot fund an individual to deliver sports activities or to support the development of an individual sportsman or sportswoman.
- WHAT SPORTS DO YOU FUND?
We can fund any sporting activity that is recognised by Sport England. This is a very comprehensive list and can be found here: https://www.sportengland.org/our-work/national-governing-bodies/sports-that-we-recognise/
- WHAT TYPE OF GRANTS DO YOU GIVE?
This scheme is aimed at providing funds for capital works or towards the purchase of larger items to support the delivery of local sports activities. Grants will not be awarded from this one-off programme for general running costs, such as pitch hire, coaching or training delivery. These can be applied for on our regular community and strategic grants programmes.
- HOW MUCH CAN WE ASK FOR?
The maximum grant is expected to be £10,000.
- DOES WNST REQUIRE MATCH FUNDING?
No. However, our funds are always limited and we may not be able to fund requests in full. We can consider applications to part fund projects, with additional funds coming from elsewhere. We are however unlikely to make what might be seen as a relatively small contribution to a large, expensive project.
- HOW DO WE APPLY?
You must complete our online application form –
see http://www.wnst.org.uk/how-to-apply/ . Be sure to attach or send us everything we require to process your application.
- DO YOU HAVE AN APPLICATION DEADLINE?
Yes – the programme will be open for applications from Monday 23rd October until Friday 1st December (5pm). Decisions on all applications will be made at the end of January 2018.
This is a one-off programme funded from revenues generated by Tottenham Hotspur’s tenancy at Wembley Stadium during the 2017/18 season.
- CAN WE MAKE MULTIPLE APPLICATIONS?
No, we can only accept one application from any club/organisation to this programme, although you can also apply to our regular community or strategic grants round at the same time.
- DO YOU FUND NATIONAL OR LONDON-WIDE CHARITIES?
Yes, but we can only currently consider requests to support organisations already working in LB Brent and we may also choose to give priority to locally – based providers.
- DO YOU FUND CHURCHES, MOSQUES OR OTHER FAITH GROUPS?
Yes, but only for wider community-based work delivering sports programmes. We cannot fund work which aims to promote religion.
- ARE GRANTS AWARDED ON AN “ALL OR NOTHING” BASIS?
No, we will always make a judgement on the amount you are asking us for. As part of your application we ask you to send us evidence for the cost, so that we can assess your request properly.
- WHAT EVIDENCE OF COSTS DO YOU REQUIRE?
Please provide us with a written quotation, copy of a catalogue/brochure, website reference or something similar to confirm the cost of any kit equipment etc. for which you are seeking funds.
- DO YOU FUND RETROSPECTIVELY?
No, we cannot fund the costs of any items already purchased or ordered, or works undertaken, before the WNST trustees consider applications at the end of January 2018.
- IF I APPLY, DOES THIS MEAN I WILL GET FUNDING?
Unfortunately not. It is likely that the grants round will be over–subscribed. However, we will help as many groups as we can.
- CAN I APPLY TO THE REGULAR BRENT GRANTS ROUND AS WELL?
Yes, this one-off programme is entirely separate from our regular community and strategic awards programmes. So you can apply to both.
- IF WE WERE AWARDED A GRANT, WHAT REPORT BACK WILL YOU WANT?
We will not expect long or complex reports. Later in 2018, we will ask to you to confirm that you spent the grant as you said you would. A copy of the receipt for items purchased or work undertaken will be do this.
We will also be interested to know how many people benefitted from the grant and what difference it has made to your organisation.
Please note that we reserve the right to seek repayment of all or part of any grant which has been mis-spent.
- DO YOU VISIT APPLICANTS?
We are unlikely to want to visit applicants, but may be in contact to clarify points on your application (or to speak to your reference provider, if appropriate.)
We might though visit grant recipients later in the year to see how our money has been spent. It’s always good to see the work in action. (We do though reserve the right to visit any grant holder at any time if we have concerns about the use of our funds).
- DO YOU FUND SCHOOLS?
Yes, but we cannot fund work that is part of the core PE curriculum. So any equipment would need to be for out-of-school hours or lunchtime clubs etc. We would also be unlikely to fund capital alterations to a school that should rightly be the responsibility of the school authorities.
You will also need to explain how the expenditure in your proposal is different from or additional to those being funded through your school’s PE Sports grant.
- CAN YOU FUND TOWARDS THE COSTS OF PURCHASING A VEHICLE, OTHER LARGE CAPITAL ITEM OR SIGNIFICANT WORKS PROJECT?
The maximum grant on this programme is £10,000 and we will consider part funding a larger purchase or work project. Vehicles are not excluded from consideration but must be used exclusively for sports purposes and have very regular use. We are unlikely to support the costs of a cheaper second-hand vehicle.
