WNST hosts the Barclays Premier League Trophy

Hundreds of people had the chance today to have their photo taken with the Barclays Premier League Trophy, thanks to a partnership between WNST and our colleagues in the City Bridge Trust, together with the Cheapside branch of Barclays Bank in the City of London.

The trophy visited the Guildhall, in the City, courtesy of an agreement with the local Barclays’ staff, who had secured the loan of the trophy for the day. We were asked to invite some of the charities that we fund to come along and publicise the great work they are doing to increase the opportunities for disabled Londoners to play sport.

Although Chelsea secured the Premier League Trophy last weekend, that did not stop scores of fans from clubs across the divisions wanting to get snapped alongside the trophy, each dreaming that one day it may be their team’s turn to hold the cup aloft.

James Isaac, who works with Inclusive United, the partnership of the community schemes of London’s professional football clubs, each delivering football projects for disabled Londoners, said “This has been a real opportunity for people to learn about some of the great sports activities going on in London that doesn’t get much publicity. But the health, fitness and social benefits of playing sport are just as important for disabled people as anyone. The Barclays Premier League trophy itself was the draw to get people along but hopefully they also learned about the range of sports opportunities for disabled people that now exist across the capital.”

James was joined by representatives of Wheelpower, Greenhouse Sports, Bikeworks, London Playing Fields Foundation, Share Community and Kick It Out.

Many thanks to Barclays Bank for the occasion.
